Annika's Scholarship

Annika’s Scholarship is to honour the life and work of former UOW College staff member, Annika Harrison. She believed in the power of education to transform lives and wanted to ensure that all students, regardless of their circumstances, had access to the education they deserved.

This scholarship will be awarded annually to a UOW College student who has overcome equity hardship to pursue a Higher Education Diploma program. This will provide a full tuition fee scholarship to a deserving student who embodies Annika's values of resilience, determination, and a commitment to learning. 

The scholarship is open to students with an offer to study a Higher Education Diploma program in the UOW College Spring intake.  

Eligibility  

Annika's Scholarship is available to a student enrolling in a Higher Education Diploma program in the UOW College Spring intake. Applicants must satisfy the following eligibility criteria to be considered for the scholarship:

  1. Australian or New Zealand Citizenship, or the holder of an Australian permanent resident or permanent humanitarian visa.
  2. Have an offer of admission for one of the following courses: Diploma of Arts, Social Science and Humanities; Diploma of Business; Diploma of Engineering; Diploma of Information Technology; Diploma of Medical and Health Sciences; or Diploma of Science.
  3. Meet at least one of the criteria outlined below.
  4. Provide a supporting statement explaining what being awarded the scholarship will mean to you and how it will impact you? The statement should be no longer than 500 words. 

For the purposes of awarding Annika’s scholarship, forms of equity disadvantage include:  

  • Carer responsibilities
  • A non-English speaking background
  • Long-term medical condition/disability  
  • Relocating from a regional or remote area
  • Sole parent responsibilities

This scholarship is closed for 2024 and will reopen in 2025 prior to Spring session.

The scholarship application must be submitted via the online form. The closing date will be 14 days before the first Monday of Spring session – check the key dates.

About Annika

Annika was a former UOW College staff member who passed away from bowel cancer in 2023. Annika brought an unwavering passion and commitment to her work, and her positivity was always a source of inspiration for her colleagues and students. Annika’s courage, resilience and determination was nothing short of remarkable over the years following her diagnosis. She continues to be missed by our UOW College and UOW community. Annika's wish for all of us: Hug your loved ones tight, live your life in the now with kindness and no regrets and get tested for bowel cancer!

 

Scholarship Assessment

All scholarship applications are read and reviewed by a panel from UOW College through a competitive process. We appreciate your time in submitting an application for the scholarships; however, please be aware that meeting eligibility criteria does not guarantee a scholarship. Successful applicants are notified in writing before their course starts.
