Study Science

Why study Science at UOW College?

Science graduates are experts in the science behind life. Working in a range of fields, scientists use their skills to explore the world’s diverse species and ecosystems. This knowledge helps us to understand the issues affecting the earth’s wildlife and environment, and work towards protecting and managing it.

The Diploma of Science is designed to empower you to apply scientific thinking and analysis to important issues impacting the world today. You will learn relevant concepts and skills in mathematics and a variety of fundamental science disciplines.

Science courses offered at UOW College

The Diploma of Science is an in-depth preparation program which provides guaranteed* entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Science or first year of the Bachelor of Science Education at UOW.

A Nationally recognised Higher Education Diploma qualification is awarded upon completion, which can be used to pursue entry level career opportunities.

What’s different about each course?

A Diploma of Science (Domestic) is a 3-session program with a duration of 18 months. This program is for individuals who may not have met the direct entry requirements to the relevant UOW bachelor program, or the Diploma of Science Fast Track (Domestic).

This course is applicable to any domestic students who are eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP).

What is a Commonwealth Support Place (CSP)?

Under a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), the Australian government will pay for part of your tuition fees (called the subsidy amount), and you pay the rest (called the student contribution). To be eligible for a CSP for a Diploma, you must be one of the following:

  • an Australian citizen, who be resident in Australia for at least one unit of study contributing to their course of study
  • a New Zealand citizen, who will be resident in Australia for the duration of their unit(s) of study
  • a permanent visa holder, who will be resident in Australia for the duration of their unit(s) of study.

The Diploma of Science Fast Track (Domestic) is a 2-session program with a duration of 7-9 months. This program is for individuals who may not have met the direct entry requirements to the relevant UOW bachelor program. Intensive study patterns allow Diploma graduates to qualify for university entrance in minimum time.

This course is only applicable to domestic students who are eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP).
