Aaysha Joshi had never thought of becoming a nurse, despite her innate passion for helping and being kind to people.
But these days, you’ll find Aaysha busy working as an Enrolled Nurse, while studying a Bachelor of Nursing.
“I absolutely love working with the elderly, offering a helping hand and giving them comfort. It is an incredible job to be able to do.”
The Nepalese-born student was searching for a course that would not only start her future career but also help her gain residency status. Little did she know, this search would lead her to a hospital setting.
“I could never stand to see anyone in pain,” she says.
“And I used to get scared at the sight of blood, so I thought nursing was not my cup of tea”.
“I was on the looking for a new home in a regional area, which led me to explore educational opportunities around Wollongong. That's when I discovered UOW College.”
“I told my partner I would see how I went, and on my first placement as part of the Diploma of Nursing with UOW College I went to an aged care facility – and I loved it.
“I felt such a deep sense of satisfaction with what I was doing. It was such an incredible journey and I just wanted to understand more.”
“It has been overwhelming at times but the support I received from the College and the educators was fantastic.”
Her experience at UOW College was profound, she says.
“The first thing about UOW College is the teachers. They are so cooperative and supportive,” she says.
“My experience at UOW College has been very strong. There are so many things I do now in my degree studies that I am already strong at because of what I learned in the Diploma of Nursing at UOW College.
“The way the teachers helped me with all my assignments was great. It was such a good environment, and they were always there to help us learn.
“At first, I was scared but I always had a passion to help people and be kind to them. Working as an Enrolled Nurse has made me stronger, and it gives me so much satisfaction.
“This profession has made me really strong, and it has changed my whole perspective on nursing.
