UOW College equity nursing scholarship

UOW College is pleased to offer a limited number of equity scholarships to new commencing domestic HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing students. Permanent residents are also eligible to apply.

Students will be required to pay a one off VSL Administration fee of $60

Scholarship eligibility criteria 

Applicants must satisfy the following eligibility criteria to be considered for a UOW College Equity Nursing Scholarship: 

  1. Have an offer of admission for, and be a new commencing student in, the HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing course commencing in 2024; 
  2. Meet at least one of the Equity Criteria outlined below, including Financial Hardship, 
  3. Meet the NSW Government Smart and Skilled eligibility criteria. 

Equity criteria 

Financial hardship – currently in receipt of Centrelink Youth Allowance, Austudy, Abstudy or another income and asset tested entitlement (excluding Family Assistance) and can demonstrate exceptional financial circumstances that would impede full payment. 

Disrupted schooling – attended three or more schools during Years 10, 11 and 12, moved interstate after beginning Year 11, or missed long periods of secondary schooling, or experienced severe interruptions to studies due to refugee status, or for reasons other than medical. 

Severe family disruption – experienced death of an immediate family member during Years 11 or 12, diagnosis of life-threatening or severe illness or disability of an immediate family member, divorce or separation of parents during Years 11 or 12, criminal proceedings, significant or deliberate interference to studies by family members, excessive home or family responsibility including care of children or other family members, or work requirements to support family or responsibility to work in family business. 

Long term medical or other condition / Effects of abuse – have been diagnosed with a severe long term or recurrent medical condition/illness or a learning, physical, psychiatric or other disability, or have experienced long term abuse, eg, domestic violence or emotional or physical abuse. 

How to apply 

  • Students who have a valid offer for the HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing program will be invited to apply for this scholarship. 

  • Further information will be provided to all eligible students. 

Scholarship assessment and selection process 

All Scholarship applications will be reviewed and assessed by a panel of UOW College representatives. 

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their Scholarship application in writing following the completion of the assessment process, prior to course commencement.

Understanding VET Student Loans 

VET Student Loans is an Australian Government income-contingent loan scheme that is part of the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) and replaces the VET FEE-HELP scheme from 1 January 2017. VET Student Loans assists eligible students enrolled in approved Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses at approved training providers pay their tuition fees subject to a maximum loan amount. VET Student Loans is available for the Diploma of Nursing (HLT54121). 
 
VET Student Loans will only be approved for students who meet eligibility requirements. A VET Student Loan gives rise to a VETSL debt that continues to be a debt due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid.
