Morgan began her education journey with plans to complete a Bachelor of Science in Medical Radiation Physics. But along the way, she discovered a sense of community, strong support and new opportunities at UOW College through the Diploma of Medical and Health Sciences. Now stepping into the second year of her Bachelor of Nutrition Science at UOW, she reflects on how far she has come - and the pride she feels in her progress.
Finding her pathway
Morgan graduated from high school in 2020 with early entry into her desired degree. Although she was determined to pursue higher education, university wasn’t quite the right fit for her yet. COVID restrictions and larger cohorts meant she struggled to connect with peers or teachers and felt unmotivated to continue.
Morgan soon fell out of touch with her goals, deciding instead to return to her hometown in Sutherland and work full-time. Although this was far from her initial intentions after leaving high school, it gave her a chance to consider her options.
“That time was really imperative for me to find my actual purpose”, says Morgan, and she encourages others in a similar position not to take this time for granted.
After experiencing the importance of healthcare in her personal life in rural settings, Morgan was inspired to pursue a career that would allow her to make a difference in her community upon graduation.
When she heard about UOW College’s personalised approach to learning and structured academic support, she knew it was worth taking the chance.
“I apply myself to everything I do,” says Morgan; “I never give half”. But without support, she was up against an impossible challenge.

Friendship, guidance and support
She was initially concerned it would be difficult to apply, considering she already had an existing transcript. But after reaching out to UOW College, she was guided towards the pathway that would best fit her situation.
At UOW College, Morgan found a hands-on learning environment and strong sense of community which inspired her to continue with her education goals.
“The smaller class sizes meant everything was more intimate. We were with each other every step of the way so we could give each other personal support and receive it from our teachers,” says Morgan.
A shared journey
After receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award and being chosen to speak on behalf of her peers at her graduation ceremony, Morgan credits her success to the incredible support and encouragement she received from her peers and teachers at UOW College.

“I could talk about any of my teachers in a glowing light”, says Morgan, “but it was the fact they felt more like mentors which meant a lot. They have inside knowledge and are often studying too, so they know what you’re going through and how to push you forward.”
“If you reach out, they’ll take your hand,” says Morgan, and she extends this advice to anyone considering UOW College as a pathway to university.
“Everyone’s in the same boat, so you’re never alone. Reach out because community is everywhere.”
With friends and mentors supporting her, Morgan can confidently transition into the second year of her bachelor’s degree.
