UOW College Access Nursing Scholarship

The UOW College Access Nursing Scholarship provides assistance to students who are experiencing financial hardship that may impact their study.

The scholarship will provide a 25% tuition fee reduction for the minimum duration of the Diploma of Nursing course.

Students will be required to pay a one off VSL Administration fee of $60

Scholarship eligibility criteria 

Applicants must satisfy the following eligibility criteria to be considered for an Access Nursing Scholarship: 

  1.  Have an offer of admission for, and be a new commencing student in, the HLT541121 Diploma of Nursing course commencing in 2024
  2.   Meet the Equity Criteria for Financial Hardship. This includes at time of offer in receipt of Centrelink Youth Allowance, Austudy, Abstudy or another income and asset tested entitlement (excluding Family Assistance) and can demonstrate exceptional financial circumstances that would impede full payment.  

How to apply 

  • Students who have a valid offer for the HLT541121 Diploma of Nursing program can apply for the scholarship.

  • The scholarship will be assessed on an ongoing basis.

  • All scholarship applications need to be submitted 5 days prior to the census date

  • All students who meet the scholarship entry requirements, will receive written confirmation and the scholarship will be applied at census.  

Supporting documentation required

Examples of supporting documentation that is required to support the scholarship application include:

  • A letter from Centrelink confirming receipt of the benefit. The letter should clearly show the Centrelink Reference Number (CRN) and benefit or allowance category, OR
  • A current concession card that shows the CRN and clearly shows the benefit or allowance category, OR
  • A current Centrelink income statement that clearly shows the CRN and the benefit allowance category, OR
  • Any other evidence that clearly shows the CRN and the benefit allowance category, OR
  • Documentary evidence from the Department of Veterans Affairs stating their pension/benefit status, OR
  • For people applying for Austudy or Youth Allowance, an approval letter from Centrelink that shows the CRN and indicates that the commencement date of their benefit is within two weeks of their enrolment or within one week prior to census date for Session 1.

Understanding VET Student Loans 

VET Student Loans is an Australian Government income-contingent loan scheme that is part of the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) and replaces the VET FEE-HELP scheme from 1 January 2017. VET Student Loans assists eligible students enrolled in approved Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses at approved training providers pay their tuition fees subject to a maximum loan amount. VET Student Loans is available for the Diploma of Nursing (HLT54121). 
 
VET Student Loans will only be approved for students who meet eligibility requirements. A VET Student Loan gives rise to a VETSL debt that continues to be a debt due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid.
