CUA51015 Diploma of Screen and Media

The CUA51015 Diploma of Screen and Media has been designed to fill the demand for highly skilled artists, and prepare students for a rewarding career in film and video games. With a focus on building strong foundational skills in 3D modeling, animation and visual effects using industry-standard software, students will develop a good understanding of film and game pipelines, and learn workflows similar to those used in actual studios.

Entry Requirements

This course is available to domestic students only. International students are invited to apply for a range of other courses offered by UOW College.

Students are required to provide evidence of having sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to successfully undertake the program’s academic requirements prior to commencing the program.

There are a range of entry requirements to ensure you are suitable for the course. These include:

  • Completed Australian Year 12, OR
  • Completed International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) diploma; OR
  • Completed a Certificate IV level qualification in Australia, OR
  • Achieve a minimum result of Exit Level 3 in both Literacy and Numeracy (supervised online tests administered by UOW College), AND
  • Successfully demonstrate course suitability at an interview.

Please note: Students will be required to undertake an online Language, Literacy and Numeracy test to identify any support needs that may be required.

In order to participate in this course, students are required to have access to a laptop/computer capable of running Autodesk Maya, a webcam, and an internet connection.

Advanced Diploma of Screen & Media

CUA60615 Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media

It’s an exciting time to be in the entertainment industry! With technological advancements allowing artists to push creative boundaries, the bar for high-quality films and games continues to rise year on year. Even the global pandemic has shown the resilience of the industry, with video game sales booming and production companies turning to innovative new solutions such as virtual production, which will change the way film and TV shows will be made moving forward. 

The Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media will build on the foundational CG industry skills learnt in the CUA51015 Diploma of Screen and Media. 

Students in the Advanced Diploma will choose from one of four streams of specialisation to learn more advanced techniques: 

  1. 3D Animation 
  2. 3D Modelling 
  3. FX and Simulation 
  4. Compositing 

While studying the Advanced Diploma, students will have further opportunities to build a more diverse portfolio with additional pieces of work focusing on their chosen specialty to showcase to prospective employers.  

Students who complete the Advanced Diploma will be able to pursue future employment as a specialist on high-quality productions and have a broader range of opportunities available to them.

Students who complete the Diploma of Screen and Media will also receive credit for prior learning equivalent to the first year of study of the Advanced Diploma, effectively reducing the Advanced Diploma course duration to 1 year.
