Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply knowledge, practical skills and experience in leadership and management across a range of enterprise and industry contexts.

Individuals at this level display initiative and judgement in planning, organising, implementing and monitoring their own workload and the workload of others. They use communication skills to support individuals and teams to meet organisational or enterprise requirements.

They plan, design, apply and evaluate solutions to unpredictable problems, and identify, analyse and synthesize information from a variety of sources. 

The program is designed to assist students to progressively develop their knowledge, skills, and attitudes for professional participation in any number of Leadership and Management roles.

Career Prospects 

After successful completion of the UOW College Diploma of Leadership and Management, students may be eligible to apply to work in a range of business roles for example:

  • Business Manager 
  • Human Resources Manager 
  • Sales Team Manager

The Diploma of Leadership and Management is also a pathway for application into many University Undergraduate Courses.

Entry Requirements

Domestic Entry Requirements 
  • Completed HSC (or equivalent Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education) or international equivalent, OR
  • A Certificate IV or international equivalent (deemed as equivalent to completion of HSC).
International Entry Requirements
  • Completed HSC (or equivalent Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education) or international equivalent, OR
  • A Certificate IV or international equivalent (deemed as equivalent to completion of Year 12).
  • IELTS 5.5 Academic (minimum 5.0 in reading and writing) or equivalent.

If the above entry requirements are not met, students will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Students may be considered as meeting the English language requirements if successfully completing two years of secondary or tertiary study at an approved institution where the language of instruction was English; and was located in a country where the official language is English.

Units of Study

Students are required to successfully complete 12 Units of Competency to complete this qualification and 140 hours of work placement.

Delivery

The Diploma of Leadership and Management is delivered face-to-face in a classroom and computer based environment over 3 days per week for 2 academic sessions and includes self-paced activities.

A range of assessment methods are used to determine competence. These may include:

Progression to UOW

Students who successfully complete the Diploma of Leadership and Management can apply for entry to the UOW Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business and receive 24 credit points of credit transfer towards these degrees. A completed Diploma of Leadership and Management can also be used to apply for a number of other Bachelor degrees where eligible.
