Guaranteed pathways to UOW*

So, you didn’t receive direct entry into your chosen University course? At UOW College we offer academic pathway programs that prepare you for university.

These courses are designed for students who have not met the direct entry requirements for a UOW undergraduate bachelor degree. They are also suited to students who did not receive an ATAR from their secondary schooling.

After successful completion of the course you are guaranteed entry into the first or second year of a range of UOW undergraduate degrees.


University Access Program

The following course is accredited by UOW (CRICOS code 00102E) and delivered by UOW College.

This university preparation program is designed to develop your study skills and habits required for University level study mature aged student.  To ensure your learning material is relevant to your desired bachelor degree at UOW, we allocate you into a stream of subjects to study as part of your course.

Length | 1 session of 14 weeks Intakes | Autumn, Spring, Summer (only at Liverpool, Batemans Bay & Shoalhaven)

University Entrance Certificate

The following course is accredited by UOW (CRICOS code 00102E) and delivered by UOW College.

This university preparation program is designed to develop your study skills and habits required for University level study.  To ensure your learning material is relevant to your desired bachelor degree at UOW, we allocate you into a stream of subjects to study as part of your course.

STEP to UOW

The following course is accredited by UOW (CRICOS code 00102E) and delivered by UOW College.

STEP (Special Tertiary Entrance Program) to UOW is a university preparation course for recent school leavers who experienced disadvantage while studying for their HSC.

Applicants for STEP to UOW need to demonstrate that their school studies suffered because of circumstances beyond their control for example illness, financial hardship, disrupted schooling, home and environment responsibilities, English language difficulty or personal illness.

Students will study the same program as the University Entrance Certificate. STEP to UOW students are offered a Commonwealth Supported Place, with tuition fees funded by the Commonwealth Government. This means students are not required to pay for their study.

Diploma of Business

This program gives students who did not make direct entry into a UOW business degree the opportunity to complete their first year of at UOW College. Studied over 2 or 3 sessions, the subjects in the Diploma of Business replicate those taken in the first year of the Bachelor of Business/Commerce degree, as well as generally preparing the student for university level study.

Diploma of Information Technology

The Diploma of Information Technology is designed to provide a guaranteed pathway into the second year of a Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) Bachelor of Business Information Systems (BBIS) or Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) at the University of Wollongong.

The program will offer you support to develop tertiary learning skills to assist you achieve your goals for university studies, including training in English language proficiency.

Diploma of Engineering

The following course is accredited by UOW (CRICOS code 00102E) and delivered by UOW College.

The Diploma of Engineering is designed to provide a guaranteed pathway into the second year of the Bachelor of Engineering degree (BEng) at the University of Wollongong.

The program will offer you support to develop tertiary learning skills to assist you achieve your goals for university studies.

Diploma of Social Science (Wollongong)

This program gives students who did not make direct entry into a UOW Social Science or Arts degree the opportunity to complete the first session of their first year at UOW College. Studied over 2 sessions, successful completion of the Diploma provides 24 credit points the equivalent of one session of study, toward a UOW Bachelor of Social Science or Bachelor of Arts degree. The Diploma provides a general preparation for first year university level study.

So what’s the catch?

There are some exceptions for UOW undergraduate degrees that we cannot provide you direct entry into. These include 4 year professional degrees and double degree programs. Related 3-year degrees are available in some cases in Science and Health and Behavioural Science. You may apply to transfer to the 4 year program after completing your first year of study.

In order to proceed to your chosen degree program at UOW you need to meet minimum entry requirements.
