How can I pay for my course?
| Defer Your Fees |
Students studying Diploma of Business, Foundation Studies, or the UAP have the option to defer the cost of the course using FEE-HELP. Students studying the Diploma of Communication & Media Studies have the option to defer student contribution course costs using HECS-HELP. See below for more information. |
| Pay in Instalment |
Students are able to pay their tuition fee in instalments via credit card. The instalments consist of three equal payments per session. The first instalment must be paid prior to the commencement of the course, with subsequent payments automatically deducted from the credit card at weeks 5 and 10. |
| Upfront Payment |
Students can choose to pay their fees upfront prior to the commencement of the course by cash, Money Order, Visa or MasterCard. The date payment is required will be stated in the offer letter. For credit card payments please print and complete the Credit Card Payment form. For cheque please make your cheque payable to UOW College. Return cheque along with your offer of acceptance to: UniAdvice, University of Wollongong, NSW 2522 Australia. |
| Commonwealth Supported Place |
Under a Commonweath supported place, the Australian Government contributes a portion of the total tuition fee and the student pays the remainder, which is called the “student contribution”. All domestic Diploma of Communication & Media Studies places are Commonwealth supported places. See HECS-HELP below for information on defering the student contribution. All STEP to UOW students are enrolled under a Commonwealth supported place which does not require a student contribution, meaning there are no tuition fees for this program. Students studying the UAP are encouraged to apply for a Commonwealth supported place. UAP Commonwealth supported places are awarded on the basis of equity criteria including but not limited to: low income, living in a rural or isolated area, Indigenous Australians, women studying in non-traditional areas, recent migrant and permanent disability. Defer your Fees through HELP (Higher Education Loan Program)
What is FEE-HELP?
FEE-HELP* is an Australian Government loan scheme designed to assist eligible students in paying part or all of their tuition fees for courses at approved institutions. Australian citizens and holders of humanitarian permanent resident visas are eligible to apply for FEE-HELP. FEE-HELP can be used with any UOW College Foundation, Diploma** and UAP program.
*Please note extra fees apply. **Excludes the Diploma of Communication & Media Studies (see HECS-HELP below)
How do I request FEE-HELP?
To request FEE-HELP you need to advise us you will apply for FEE-HELP on your acceptance of offer into your chosen course. You do not need to request FEE-HELP prior to enrolment. College staff will assist you to apply for FEE-HELP at Orientation.
To apply for FEE-HELP you will need an Australian Tax File Number (TFN) from the Australian Taxation Office. There is no application charge for FEE-HELP. Students accessing FEE-HELP for Diploma courses will be charged a Government loan fee.
What is HECS-HELP?
HECS-HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme that assists eligible Commonwealth supported students to pay their student contribution. Australian citizens and holders of a permanent humanitarian visa may pay some or all of their student contribution up front and/or they may access a HECS-HELP loan to cover some or all of their student contribution. Detailed information can be found on the Going To Uni website. HECS-HELP can be accessed by Diploma of Communication & Media Studies students and approved UAP students.
How much can I borrow?
Students can borrow up to the amount of the tuition fees charged for their course. For further details visit the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations website http://goingtouni.gov.au.
How do I pay it back?
Your debt is repaid via the Australian Tax Office once your income reaches the threshold for compulsory payment. For more info visit the ATO website http://www.ato.gov.au.
Are there any other costs I need to know about?
You will need to cover your own accommodation and living expenses. Textbook costs and other study related costs are also payable by the student.
