How did your studies at UOW College prepare you for transitioning to your bachelor studies at UOW?

The preparation I received as a student of UOW College was invaluable. The teachers were amazing and I really felt like they were invested in me and wanted me to succeed. The assessments were all designed to teach you vital skills for study at Uni and I am so glad I chose UOW College as my pathway into UOW. I was a mid-year starter at UOW and without the essay writing and referencing skills I learnt at UOW College I think I would of struggled a lot in my first session at UOW. The college not only prepared me with skills but they also gave me the peace of mind of knowing what to expect at UOW so it wasn’t as big of a shock to the system as it could have been.

What are your fondest memories about your time at UOW College?

I attended UOW College in 2007 and I made friends during that time that I still have today. The chemistry lessons were always a blast too... literally sometimes.

What is one aspect of UOW College that you found to be the most useful for your future endeavours?

As I mentioned before, the preparation for further study was invaluable but I think UOW College was the first stepping stone to get me to where I am today. It helped me realise that I could achieve what ever I put my mind too and it showed me the results of hard work and sustained effort. From the college I went on to complete my Bachelor and Honours, after which I worked as an exploration geologist and hydrogeologist. Without that first stepping-stone, I might have taken a different path altogether.

What advice would you give to students considering studying at UOW College and UOW?

There is no better pathway into UOW. You will gain skills that you will use throughout your studies at UOW and you’ll have a great time doing it. It’s a great way to ease yourself into the expectations of tertiary education. I am so glad I chose this path and would recommend it to anyone.

Kele is currently working as a Hydrogeologist for WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff.
